Optional Course: Pollution. Causes and effects

OVERVIEW

From October 2008 until June 2009, an optional course "Pollution – causes and effects" was held in our school. Students from classes 6E and 6B were involved, approximately 60 students. Two teachers, a geography one and a chemistry one prepared courses on pollution for two 6th grade classes.

September 2009 – June 2010 – The same optional course "Pollution – Causes and effects" from the last school year is being held this school year, this time involving students from the 6th D grade.

The courses are part of the school curriculum and contain themes such as: air pollution, water pollution, reduction of biodiversity, nature reserves near the native town, extinct species, pollution of the street environment.

OBJECTIVE(s)

* to raise students’ awareness regarding environmental and ecological problems

* to inform students about the ecological problems existing in our country

* to stimulate students to come up with possible solutions for the problems
